TAVETA TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL COLLEGE
Taveta Techincal and Vocational College is a public tertiary institution which is located in New Town area of Taveta Town. It is built on a 10 acre piece of land which is three kilometres away from central Taveta Town and two kilometres far from the Kenya – Tanzania border point of Holili. It is about one kilometre off Taveta – Holili Road behind the main Market of Taveta Town. Located at latitude -3.3943595 o S and longitude 37.656417 o E, Taveta TVC is 460 kilometres from Nairobi via Voi route and 350 km from Nairobi via Loitoktok route. Mombasa town is 260km away from here.
Taveta TVC is surrounded by beautiful hills of Ugweno just across the Kenya – Tanzania border near Lake Jipe and Lotima. Lake Challa is 4km away and the magnificent Lake Jipe is 15km towards the South- East of the college. The snowy Mt. Kilimanjaro just across the Kenya Tanzania border can be viewed clearly especially in the morning and evening hours. Taveta Town is served by an Airstrip that is 6km outside the town. The road from Voi to Taveta is fully tarmac and traverses through Tsavo West Game Park which is rich in flora and fauna. Once in Taveta Town, one can take a walk to the Tsavo West Game Park which is about 8km from town centre. Taveta Town has several top range hotels among them Challa, Market View and Green Park. Although natively dominated by the Taveta community the area offers a cosmopolitan environment with all peoples of the world found here.
Taveta TVC is registered by TVETA according to the TVET Act of 2013 and implements all its programs under government supervision through relevant government agents. Currently, Taveta TVC runs KNEC and NITA curricular and KASNEB, ICDL programs are underway. The college is a Centre of Excellency in Electrical and Electronic Engineering where modern state of art equipment acquired through Kenya/China Governments collaboration.
Being a public institution, Taveta TVC gets its manpower personnel from the Public Service Commission through the Ministry of Education, State Department of Vocational and Technical Training. The 21 trainers (17 PSC and 4 BOG) currently at Taveta TVC are licensed by TVETA as trainers as per requirement of the TVET Act of 2013. These officers have undergone skills upgrading and retraining through several training programs offered by the government at KTTC and other fora organized by Kenya Association of Technical Training Institution (KATTI). Taveta TVC is managed by Board of Governors (BOG) required by TVET Act of 2013. The board has developed a 5year Strategic Plan that would run from 2022 to 2026 with variant improvements within the set period of time. The board has had opportunity to work with other stakeholders, among them Taveta constituency NG-CDF team which has contributed some financial resources which have been used to put up college wire mesh fence and gate house. Taveta constituency NG-CDF management has also financed a twin workshop for Mechanical Engineering and Building and construction (BCT). The workshop would be ready for occupation in September, 2022. During the Financial Year 2021/2022, Taveta TVC benefited from generous contribution of 500 trees from Equity Bank – Taveta branch. The trees , which included fruit trees, would improve on the national forest cover, provide environmental protection and give fruits to the society. The College trainees benefit highly from HELB, KUCCPS, and several other donors who provide bursary to supplement in fees payment and upkeep.
Taveta TVC, with a trainees population of 288 has started participated fully in co-curricular activities such as Athletics, Drama, Music and ball games. The college has built good playing fields for football, volleyball, Netball, Handball and indoor games such as darts. Through these sporting activities, the trainees and staff are able to travel and meet their counterparts from other institutions in the Country under sports and recreation programs. (Library books) Taveta TVC has limited boarding space for both male and female trainees within a walking distance from the tuition building. Boarding facilities shall be availed upon application and payment of required fee. Currently, trainees prefer staying in rented hostels (houses) in town - a walking distance from college.
Taveta TVC has well equipped Electrical/ Electronic workshops with modern facilities provided by the government under AVIC (Kenya – China) program. The college has in the past relied on WIFI to provide E-learning material but more than 300 books have been acquired recently to start the journey of equipping the physical library which will enhance learning, training and research.There are rooms, chairs and halls available for conferences and arrangements for meals during meetings and conferences can always be facilitated. Taveta TVC is open to growth in all fields of learning and training. Some programs are started on demand and customized evening study programs (especially in business courses) are administered as requested by our clients.
